The Scottish Agricultural Organisation Society (SAOS) partnered with Ping Creates to produce a series of animated films showing how Scottish farmers and crofters play a vital role in tackling climate change.

The goal was to inspire positive action by celebrating sustainable land management practice – showing that caring for the planet also supports productivity and livelihoods.

The Challenge

Covering topics such as carbon storage, biodiversity, soil health, woodland management and renewable energy, the films needed to:

  • Highlight the environmental role of Scottish agriculture
  • Encourage adoption of carbon positive practices
  • Celebrate farmers and crofters as climate leaders
  • Educate viewers without overwhelming them with data

Each film needed to tell its own distinct story in a way that was engaging, accessible and hopeful.

Our Approach

Working closely with SAOS, we wrote scripts that struck a balance between information and inspiration. We then carefully storyboarded every sequence –  bringing to life scientific principles like carbon sequestration, soil structure and biodiversity.

The visual style was inspired by Scotland’s landscapes: a patchwork of hills, forests and fields. By using earthy tones and tactile, paper-like textures, the films felt natural and handcrafted – reflecting the qualities of the land itself.

The conversational tone of the scripts was complemented by warm, authentic Scottish narration. We composed original music and designed subtle sound effects – birds chirping, water flowing, trees rustling – to gently immerse the viewer while keeping focus on the narrative.

The Solution

The Carbon Positive Farming series comprised three complementary films:

  • Carbon Positive: A celebration of Scottish farming’s role in climate action across soil, water, peat, renewables, and biodiversity.
  • Scotland’s Soils: How soil health supports productivity and carbon storage, featuring real-world best practices.
  • Woodlands: The benefits of integrating trees into farms for ecology, carbon balance and rural livelihoods.

Each film presented farmers as climate leaders taking informed, achievable steps toward a sustainable future.

Impact

The Carbon Positive series gave SAOS an effective way of educating farmers, policymakers and the public about the role of agriculture in achieving Net Zero by 2045.

Widely shared across digital channels, the films made complex environmental issues accessible, authentic and engaging, and celebrated the vital role farmers and agricultural workers play in wider climate solutions.

For SAOS, the series strengthened its voice as a trusted advocate for sustainable, cooperative farming.

For Ping Creates, it was an opportunity to combine craft, storytelling and technology – inspired by dreams of a cleaner, greener world.
