When Equinor, one of the world’s leading energy companies, needed to modernise its offshore safety induction, they partnered with Ping Creates. Their dream was simple but ambitious: move the conventional classroom induction process online and still deliver a compliant, informative, immersive training experience for every crew member heading offshore.

The Challenge

Offshore environments are high-risk, and inductions are critical. Traditionally, Equinor would run these vital safety inductions in-person at a specific location. But this kind of training was:

We started with a discovery and UX strategy phase, mapping out every user interaction and technical requirement. Then, working closely with the Attis Fitness hardware team, we followed an agile framework that kept stakeholders involved at every stage.

Impact

By shifting from a classroom setting to an immersive digital experience, Equinor streamlined its induction delivery while upholding its culture of crew safety. The platform allowed new staff to arrive offshore better prepared, more confident and more engaged.

The initial aim was to process 250 UK-based users in a year. However, the new system smashed that goal, successfully delivering the induction to 430 new contractors in just two months.

For Equinor, the project wasn’t just about meeting compliance – it was about setting a new standard for how safety training could be delivered in the energy sector.
